Vegan Gravy

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup nutritional yeast
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 2 teaspoons chopped fresh thyme or 1 teaspoon dried
  • 2 teaspoons chopped fresh sage or 1 teaspoon dried
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/4 cup tamari / or Bragg’s liquid aminos
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

  1. In a frying pan over medium heat, stir the nutritional yeast and flour for 5 minutes, or until fragrant. Set aside in bowl. Do not burn.

2. Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion and sauté for 10 minutes, or until they are beginning to brown.

3. Add the garlic, thyme, and sage and sauté for 30 seconds or until fragrant.

4. Which in the flour mixture thoroughly, and then whisk in the water, tamari, salt and pepper.

5. Bring to a simmer, whisking frequently, and continue to simmer until the gravy is thick and creamy.

6. Pour into a bowl and serve. (Strain if you prefer)
